In pursuit of common ground

I use in-person training for safeguarding and restorative approaches to empower strong and compassionate relationships in schools and workplaces.

What

  • Safeguarding should be at the heart of all we do, but truly good safeguarding happens when we invest in relationships so that they are strong, stable and open. In-person training for safeguarding achieves this by making time to discuss, question and contribute to the safeguarding culture of your organization.

  • Restorative Approaches mean putting our relationships at the heart of all school and workplaces practices.

Restorative Approaches work proactively to prevent harm and conflict or, where conflicts have already arisen, actively work to repair them.

Restorative Approaches move everyone away from blame and shame to accountability and responsibility. Importantly, they give a voice to the harmed, which in punitive methods they lack.

  • As a stand-alone process, coaching offers children and young people opportunities to rethink persistent or negative attitudes to school or their learning.

For adults in the workplace, coaching encourages reflection and refreshed thinking around areas of their performance they would like to change.

‘In seven years of safeguarding training, this is the best safeguarding training I have ever had.’

Continuum of Restorative Practices

Restorative practice builds a whole-school culture which focuses on relationships; where these go wrong, from minor issues to more serious incidents, restorative practice has solutions. These solutions ask for accountability, create space for repair and move relationships forward again.

‘Charlotte suggested we incorporate restorative principles into behaviour management strategies, from which innovation we saw a great improvement in pupils’ accountability.’

Services

  • For pupils who do not cope well in school, whether due to poor mental health, poor social skills or other causes, meet their needs through 1:1 support sessions. The sessions are designed to create the felt trust needed for pupils to explore alternatives in their behaviour choices and embed skills for managing conflict more effectively.

  • In-person safeguarding training for school staff, including volunteers, governors or trustees.  I train under the umbrella of leading health and social care training providers, CBAT:
    https://cbassociatetraining.co.uk

A session covers: identifying types of abuse; current and local trending abuses; how to report well; legislation which underpins safeguarding; safeguarding in the news, resources, and further support. These are interactive and discussion-based sessions.

  • I am up to date with current practice and research in safeguarding, restorative approaches, and coaching, and I can signpost schools to the most appropriate resources for their needs.

Within relationships, if there are topics you need to address with pupils, such as persistent negative attitudes, I will create bespoke talks. Recent Talks include Restorative Approaches to Challenge Racism and Faith Hate, using discussion and group activities to discuss civil unrest in 2024.

  • I assess the existing toolkit in your organization for growing relationships and managing harm. Using information from your audit, I will give feedback and suggest areas for improvement and growth.

  • I demonstrate the steps for introducing Restorative Chats into the school day.

I deliver Trainer Facilitated Restorative Conferences where conflict has happened and relationships between ‘harmer’ and ‘harmed’ need to be repaired by a trained professional.

The process can run alongside a staff grievance or parental complaint.
