Restorative Justice Changes How We Behave in Relationships
In Restorative Justice, lasting change is achievable because all parties have agency: the harmer takes accountability for their actions and seeks to repair the damage they have caused; the harmed has a voice to communicate the impact of the harm and what they will need to move beyond it.
Finally, if Restorative Justice is described as ‘an ethos with practical goals, among which is to restore harm by including affected parties in a (direct or indirect) encounter and a process of understanding through voluntary and honest dialogue’, that ethos is one we want enshrined in all institutions - during such a developmentally important time, particularly those where we place our children and young people.
